Montenegro has been on my radar for some time, and the more I learn, the closer I get to booking the flights. With its natural beauty, rich heritage, and stylish yet understated hotels, it’s a destination that feels both refreshing and refined. I love diving into the details before planning a trip, and as always, I’m excited to share a little of what I’ve uncovered along the way. To that end, Montenegro could well be the next addition to the Hardy family’s travel wish list.

Kotor Bay, Montenegro

Often referred to as Europe’s southernmost fjord, the Bay of Kotor is one of Montenegro’s most stunning regions. Surrounded by dramatic limestone cliffs and the sparkling Adriatic Sea, its winding coastline is dotted with historic villages, waterfront cafés, and peaceful promenades. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s perfect for those who enjoy slow travel, scenic drives, and culture with a view.

The medieval town of Kotor is the crown jewel of the bay, with its labyrinth of narrow streets, centuries-old churches, and beautifully preserved Venetian architecture, all set against the dramatic backdrop of the Lovćen mountains. For those willing to make the climb, the old fortress walls reward with sweeping panoramic views and terracotta rooftops spilling down to the water’s edge and the vast, glistening bay beyond.

Just a short drive away, the storybook town of Perast offers a quieter kind of charm. This elegant baroque village is lined with graceful palazzos and a peaceful waterfront promenade. From here, small boats ferry visitors across to Our Lady of the Rocks, a tiny island sanctuary rich with legend and memorising views.

Venturing further into the Tivat area brings a sophisticated contrast to the old-world charm of Kotor. At its heart lies Porto Montenegro, a world-class marina and lifestyle destination that brings together contemporary luxury with a relaxed Adriatic atmosphere. Think designer boutiques, elegant waterfront restaurants, and a cosmopolitan vibe shaped by international yachting culture. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail as the sun sets behind the mountains, casting a dusky shimmer over the super yachts below.
